Our History

The Sandhills Jewish Congregation evolved from its beginning in 1981 as The Sandhills Jewish Cultural Group, meeting in each other’s homes. In 2001, the Congregation purchased three acres of land in the Foxfire Village area of Pinehurst and built our synagogue, naming it “Beth Shalom.”  Beth Shalom continues to grow and has become the center for Jewish life in the Sandhills.

We hired Rabbi Floyd Herman, as our first Rabbi, to conduct all holiday observances including monthly Shabbat services and High Holiday services, as well as Bar and Bat Mitzvahs.  Rabbi Kenneth Brickman was hired to succeed Rabbi Herman.  Rabbi Brickman's first visit was on August 27-29, 2011.  He regularly leads the congregation in a joyful Sabbath worship one Friday of each month (see calendar for our next Shabbat Service), which is followed by a delicious Oneg, provided by our members.
